SCE Chief Executive meets UN-Habitat Representative to GCC

Amna Hamad Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), received Dr. Ayman Al Hefnawi, Head of Country Programme and Representative of UN-Habitat for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).  

Al Rumaihi commended the role of the UN-Habitat office in supporting international efforts aimed at achieving sustainable urban development.  She emphasised the SCE’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with relevant international organisations to achieve national environmental goals and promote joint environmental action.
 
The meeting discussed efforts to enhance cooperation between the SCE and UN-Habitat, particularly in the areas of environmental protection and vegetation development.  Discussions focused on the mangrove plantation project in the Kingdom of Bahrain, given the ecological importance of mangroves in enhancing biodiversity, protecting coastlines, and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
 
On his part, Dr. Al Hefnawi commended Bahrain’s efforts in protecting the marine and coastal environment, and commended the SCE’s initiatives in the field of environmental sustainability.  He underscored UN-Habitat’s keenness to strengthen cooperation in implementing mangrove plantation projects and in exchanging expertise and related experiences.
