Sustainability Hackathon concludes in presence of Oil Minister

The Sustainability Hackathon concluded at the Exhibition World Bahrain as part of the World Conference on Water, Energy and Climate Change, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak Bin Daina, Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs. The event brought together over 100 students from universities and academic institutions across the GCC.

The hackathon aimed to support youth in developing practical and sustainable solutions to regional environmental challenges. Its outcomes included prototypes and technologies to improve water efficiency, advanced ideas for renewable energy aligned with GCC priorities, strategies for climate resilience, and scalable entrepreneurial initiatives.

Her Highness Shaikha Hessa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairperson of INJAZ Bahrain, said the ideas and solutions reflected youth awareness of sustainability and their commitment to future development, noting the organisation’s dedication to empowering youth and highlighting their creativity.

Dr. Bin Daina emphasised Bahrain’s commitment to fostering environmental innovation and directing youth potential toward sustainable development in water, energy and climate. He underscored that investing in young minds is essential to environmental progress and the transition to a low carbon economy. He commended the quality of the projects, the awareness demonstrated, and the spirit of innovation and teamwork, describing such initiatives as platforms to discover talent and prepare a generation capable of leading sustainability efforts.

The minister congratulated the winning teams: King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia placed first, Kuwait University in the State of Kuwait came second, and the University of Technology in the Kingdom of Bahrain won third. He commended the winning solutions for their innovation and future oriented vision.
